To accompany the release of the first part of my Memorial List, I also recorded a Zoom meeting with several of our wonderful Acadian cousins where we discuss the impact of the Acadian expulsion and our thoughts and feelings about many different topics surrounding the great upheaval. Acadian Remembrance Day is a solemn day to reflect on the hardships our ancestors faced. One of the saddest weeks in a litany of devastating times for our Acadian ancestors was the few days surrounding December 13th, 1758. Over the course of a few days, three ships carrying about 1,000 deported Acadians from PEI sunk in the Atlantic. We will always remember and honor those who perished during the years of the expulsion. Those who survived these perilous years fought hard to carry on with broken hearts to keep their traditions, culture and memories of those lost alive. Many came back to Acadia, the lands they loved, and rebuilt what had been so mercilessly broken. For those of us here today, we are the embodiment of their strength and resilience.
So on this day of remembrance, keep our ancestors and cousins in your thoughts and let's all be grateful for the lives we have today as we carry their spirits with us. We remember and honor them today and always. Vive L'Acadie!

Update 19 March 2025 : Hi all! I wanted to give an update about my Acadian Expulsion Memorial List project. I’m hoping to release Part 2 by the summer if time allows. I now have over 3,700 names of Acadians lost as a direct result of the expulsion on the list. I have also added a column for Part 2 which will include the WikiTree ID’s for those listed so you can view the sources associated with that person.
I’m currently working my way through all the Acadian families alphabetically one last time to make sure I don’t miss anyone. As I’m going along, I’m updating each profile on WikiTree to reflect any new information found, such as for baptisms, marriages, children, burials, censuses, etc. I’m also creating profiles for those who previously did not have one and those will be managed by the Acadians Project.
Last week Cindy Bourque Cooper and Gisele Cormier of the Acadians Project were so kind and generous to create a category for the Acadians on my Memorial List so we will be able find them all in one place on WikiTree. As of now, I have categorized over 700 people from my list and I’m actively working every day to add more as I work through the names again.
